Auxiliary Movie Magazine

Another part of my overall task includes creating a movie magazine front cover. Like the poster auxiliary task, i will search style models. I will mostly view magazines from the company of the popular publishes 'EMPIRE' and use some of the features that makes those magazines professional and interpret them features onto my own magazine. Hopefully this will help me to make the magazine to the best of my ability and look as professional as possible and completed to a high standard.

Here are some style models i liked the look of even though they do not match the genre of my trailer. I liked the look of the conventions and layout used, including the smaller features such as price, barcode, date, etc which my will include in my magazine that i will create.

Movie Magazine - Adding More Text

I have been developing my work and added in conventions i have seen from style models i have researched. I have looked closely and compared many and doing this influenced the text i have decided to include on the movie magazine.

As you can see i have added text at the sides which i have seen a lot when researching other 'EMPIRE' magazines. However, i have interpreted this idea into my own and added my own text including what the magazine includes inside such as other films 'Don't Breathe, The Conjuring 2' etc.

As well as this i have added a barcode which is essential for any magazine to be bought and also a date, issue number and also price. These features are crucial for any magazine as it informs the buyer on prices and also keeps them up to date if they are a regular buyer.

Movie Magazine - Adding Text

I have now moved on to adding text onto my magazine and so far i have the main text which includes a masthead, the title of the film and also extra text that will get the audiences attention.

For the masthead, i have used the title of a company called 'EMPIRE' I got their title offline and imported it into my photoshop document. I have placed it behind the main image on my magazine as i have seen this on the majority of my style models and also it doesn't cover up any of the main contents of the front cover.

I have also added in the title of my trailer, i have ensured to use the same font from my trailer which is 'Impact' so that it keeps the same theme and style throughout all my tasks.
As well as this, i have added in text above the 'EMPIRE' title which again, i seen on the style models i have researched.

Movie Magazine - Background

I spent a while trying to find a unique background for my magazine as i did not want to have a plain black background like my poster as i felt they would be too similar. Therefore, i experimented a lot on photoshop to find a background that was good but not too eye grabbing as it may have took away from the contents of the magazine. I done this by scanning through the top tool bar and i found that using new layers would widen the range of backgrounds.

As you can see in this image it gives many options in the adjustment layers and i experimented in my spare time to get the background i have now which is a kind of muffled black and white background.

Making Movie Magazine for my Trailer

Firstly, i took a picture of Ethan, who features as the stalker in my trailer, and placed it into photoshop taking out the background of the image so that i can place in a new background. I also placed a black and white effect over this image and experimented with different techniques to get a dark, shadowed effect.

I used many different tools in the process of editing this photo and taking out the background, the main tool i used was the 'Magnetic Lasso Tool'. This allowed me to edit the photograph neatly and precisely ensuring there was no rough edges that may have made it look unprofessional and not up to a good standard.

Improving Clips

An improvement i made was making the font on the black screen as big as possible. This makes it a lot more attention grabbing to the viewing audience and creates more of an effect whilst watching. As you can see the font is a lot bigger and stands out much more. I feel this will draw the audience in to the film as they will be asking themselves these questions i have  placed in my trailer keeping them wondering why the man is stalking her.

As well as this change to font size, i also shortened the longer questions asked on the black screen so that they fit onto one line. This again, creates more of an effect on the audience when they read the rhetorical questions as they are short and snappy drawing them into the film.

Adding Clips

During my trailer i have changed and improved many clips since my first draft.

When editing my trailer i included the input of new and improved shots i had took. I have now added a daylight clip of the stalker watching the victim at her home to show a broadened scale of how constant the stalking is. To make this edit clear to the audience i have added another black screen with writing, which i have used consistently throughout, projecting '24 hours'.

I have also included clips from after the stalker captures the victim and it shows them in an unknown location where she is tied up. I have included these shots to show the audience how extreme the film gets as the young girl shows struggle and fear.

I like this close up shot of the victims face as it shows the fear and upset in her eyes. The camera slowly moves out at this point which creates a sympathetic effect on the audience towards the young girl.

We also see clips of her trying to escape and finally cut lose from the tape keeping her in the chair. This gives a sense of relief to the audience as she may actually get away from the psychopath stalker.

Their is a coffin in the back ground of this image which may not be noticed, however, it helps boost the creepy effect set in this messy basement she is help captive in and sets the scene a little bit more.
