I spent a while trying to find a unique background for my magazine as i did not want to have a plain black background like my poster as i felt they would be too similar. Therefore, i experimented a lot on photoshop to find a background that was good but not too eye grabbing as it may have took away from the contents of the magazine. I done this by scanning through the top tool bar and i found that using new layers would widen the range of backgrounds. As you can see in this image it gives many options in the adjustment layers and i experimented in my spare time to get the background i have now which is a kind of muffled black and white background.
